Cheshire West Recycling (CWR) has secured a new long-term contract to continue delivering Fleet Maintenance services for Cheshire West and Chester Council beyond March 2026.

CWR has managed the Council’s fleet workshops since October 2022, providing continuity, stability and high-quality maintenance across a wide range of vehicles that support essential services throughout the borough. The new contract will commence from April 2026 for an initial eight-year period with the option to extend for a further four years. This long-term approach aligns the fleet maintenance service with CWR’s existing kerbside waste and recycling contract, ensuring consistency, operational alignment and effective long-term planning across both services.

Andy Edwards, Managing Director of Cheshire West Recycling, has said: “We are pleased to continue our long-standing partnership with Cheshire West and Chester Council through this new long-term fleet maintenance contract. It reflects the strength of the relationship we have built, the commitment of our fleet teams and the consistently high standards our Fleet Service delivers every day. This agreement gives us the stability to plan for the future; to continue investing in our people and facilities, and supporting the Council’s transition towards a cleaner, more sustainable fleet.”

CWR currently maintains 147 Council vehicles across multiple service areas. These range from small vans to accessible buses, gritters, snowploughs, tractors, trailers and mechanical sweepers. Maintaining this fleet safely, efficiently and cost-effectively is essential to the effective operation of Council services across the borough.

CWR has built a strong reputation for reliability, technical expertise and collaborative working. Our proactive, data-driven approach supports clear decision-making and helps ensure vehicles are maintained to a consistently high standard, minimising downtime and disruption. The location of CWR’s two fleet workshops within the borough plays a key role in reducing response times, travel distances and associated emissions, particularly when responding to breakdowns and undertaking routine maintenance.

The new contract provides stability for a skilled and experienced operational workforce and reduces risk around future service delivery, continuing to deliver a high-quality, value-for-money service. It also creates a strong platform for future development, enabling both organisations to build on what is already a highly effective partnership.

Supporting the Council’s environmental ambitions remains a key priority for the organisation. CWR has already made good progress in contributing to net zero commitments, delivering a 59.5 metric tonne reduction in carbon dioxide equivalent in 2023 and an 81.2 metric tonne reduction in 2024. This commitment has been further strengthened through investment in a dedicated electric vehicle maintenance workshop at our Canalside depot, expanding our capability to support the Council’s growing electric fleet.

This award represents the Council’s confidence in CWR as a trusted, locally focused partner that delivers safe, effective and efficient services for the borough. With a long-term agreement now in place, CWR will continue to invest in its people, technology and sustainable fleet capability, working closely with the Council to support reliable services today while helping to build a cleaner, more resilient fleet for tomorrow.
